What is Thai Yoga?
Health in eastern philosophies and medical systems is
seen as a balance between the energies of the body,
mind, and spirit. Disease results when the flow of
these energies is disrupted. Thai Yoga stimulates
the flow of energy within the body, releasing blockages
and bringing the body, mind and spirit back into a
balanced harmony. The body is seen as a map of
energy lines, and by applying deep stretching in time
with the breath, and pressure at specific places in a
soothing, rhythmic flow, the recipient's body and mind
move toward a relaxed, yet energized, state. |

What is a Thai Yoga session like?
The
Thai Yoga practitioner moves the receiver through a
sequence of techniques and assisted poses, as if yoga is
being done to you and not by you. Therefore, Thai
Yoga is sometimes referred to as the "lazy person's
yoga". It's done completely clothed and on the floor on a
futon-like mat to allow the practitioner plenty of room
to move around. Typical sessions last
one-and-a-half to three hours. |
|
Why so long?
Nothing exists in isolation. Thai Yoga philosophy
recognizes and stresses that connections exist between
one problem area and another in the body. For
example, the tightness in a person's low back might
possibly be a reaction to a lesser felt misalignment in
his or her neck. Therefore, instead of addressing just
problem areas, Thai Yoga takes a minimum of
one-and-a-half hours to address the body as a whole. |

What are the historical roots of Thai Yoga?
It's thought that Thai Yoga originated in India and was
brought to Thailand over 2500 years ago, though
somewhere in time, Thai Yoga picked up elements of the
Chinese medicine system. In its present form, Thai
Yoga philosophy shares the Chinese and Japanese view
that the body is a system of energy lines and with the
proper application of stimulation and pressure along
these lines, energy blockages are relieved. Also
apparent are Thai Yoga's roots in the Indian Ayurvedic
holistic approach to well-being, and Yoga's emphasis on
the breath, and deep stretching. The combination
has resulted in a focused and profound meditative and
bodily experience. |

What will Thai Yoga do for me?
Joints are
mobilized, internal organs are flushed and toned,
muscles and connective tissues are thoroughly stretched
and cleansed, emotional blocks can be released, pain and
soreness relieved, blood and lymph flow improved, and
stress and tension are released. Whether you have
a yoga practice or not, Thai Yoga will leave you
refreshed and alive, yet rested.
