JOHN
John learned at an early age that being fit
physically, mentally and spiritually is an essential part of life. He
grew up playing ice hockey starting at age 6, continuing through high school
and got heavily into weight training through most of the nineties.
Since discovering yoga 1999, John has fully evolved into the practice and
has completely given up weight training. He found yoga to be
incredibly therapeutic and offer a much better workout. John continues
to enjoy hiking, mountain biking, skiing, ice hockey and roller blades,
realizing of course that the practice of yoga enhances them all.
His first
exposure to yoga was in the style of Kripalu. His initial teacher training
took place in 2003 with Todd Norian completing 400 hours of study. He has
since studied extensively with John Friend (master teacher and founder of
Anusara Yoga). John has completed John Friend’s Level One and Two teacher
trainings, Mini-Therapy Training, Master Immersion, Advanced Intensives as
well as a few exclusive retreats. John is currently working towards
Certification in Anusara Yoga and has also completed the Thai Yoga Healing
Arts Basic Certification as directed by Jonas Westring.
In class,
John’s passion and contagious energy helps his students play their edge and
make a meaningful correlation between their inner radiance and outer health.
Students learn to thoroughly understand the postures and their benefits.
Linking intention to every breath, movement and posture, his classes have a
harmonious flow. Approaching the practice with a good sense of humor and
natural playfulness, he encourages his students to go deep to unveil their
bodies' inherent wisdom. Through his light approach to some heavy philosophy
and elegant bio-mechanics, John's students learn that there is a clearly
defined method that supports all aspects of well-being. As a student, you
can expect to come away with discovering meaning to your practice on and off
your mat, integrating the benefits as you embrace the full spectrum of life.
John’s
mission as a teacher is to hold the space so that each student may come to
realize her or his own inherent wisdom and goodness. The end result is to
experience the full vibrancy of life with integrity through a “whole”-listic
practice of aligning body, mind and spirit with the Supreme pulsation of
nature.
