Holistic Wellness Series

Sugar cravings...oh my!!

Wednesday, August 12, 7:30 to 9pm

Our bodies naturally want to be balanced.  The food you eat is a major contributing factor to the overall balance of the body.  So why do we crave sweet things?

Come learn about our sugar cravings and why we have them.  Explore how to gain control without willpower or deprivation.

This workshop explores the effects of sugar on the body.   Since Americans, on average consume 576 cans of sugar-based soda per year, causing multiple health conditions including diabetes and obesity, it is so important to learn about healthy alternatives to improve your health and energy.  Participants will gain a greater understanding of why we crave sweets, how sugar decreases our energy and the cycle of sugar addiction.  In addition to understanding why we overindulge in sweet foods, participants learn what alternatives exist to the typical refined sugars we find in junk food, candy bars and other unhealthy snacks.

Break the cycle of sugar addiction!

Krista Daley has always been fascinated with the human body.  Since she was a child she had a love of athletics and always knew the benefits of eating healthy.  Sports were a focal point in her life just as they are now for her two girls ages 8 and 10.  Nutrition plays a huge role in her life as a mother and spreading the word has become her mission.

She received her training to practice Health Counseling at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which is the only nutrition school integrating all the different dietary theories - combining traditional philosophies with modern concepts like the USDA food pyramid, the glycemic index, the Zone and raw foods.  Her favorite part of this journey in learning has been adopting the concept of bio-individuality.  It is the philosophy that understands that each of us is unique and able to respond to a variety of foods differently.  In this learning she has also discovered about the importance of "primary foods".  Primary food is more than what is on your plate.  Healthy relationships, regular physical activity, a fulfilling career and a spiritual practice can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life. When primary food is balanced and satiating, your life feeds you, making what you eat secondary.

In addition to eating healthy foods, Yoga is an important aspect of her life.  Just as yoga has many benefits physically and spiritually, nourishment from all kinds of food is strengthening and uplifting.  She is grateful for all of her teachers.
